Who is eligible for a Europass?

The Europass documents are available for use by all citizens who have the centre of their life, education/training or work in one of the countries participating in the Europass Initiative. The Europass is targeted at pupils, apprentices/trainees, students in higher level education, individuals taking part voluntarily in the Initiative, educators and trainees, job-seekers, and employees.

What will the Europass do for me?

The Europass is an aid in documenting skills and experiences. It consists of five documents (Curriculum Vitae, Language Passport, Europass Mobility, Certificate Supplement, Diploma Supplement). Each has a standardised structure and is understood and employed throughout Europe. As a result, skills and qualifications can be presented in a clear, traceable and comprehensive manner.

The Europass can be helpful in finding a placement or job domestically or abroad or in applying for European education and training programmes. It also helps employers to judge the qualifications of applicants more accurately.

Does the Europass lead to a professional qualification?

No. The Europass is a European portfolio used for recording skills and qualifications gained at school, university, or during an organised period of study or training abroad.

Are the five components of the Europass official documents?

No. The components of the Europass are not official documents. They are instruments which a total of 31 European countries have decided to use for recording and presenting qualifications and skills. Thanks to its standard structure, the Europass is helpful in documenting occupational and learning experiences.

Where can I obtain the Europass documents and who fills them out?

Do I have to use all 5 documents?

No. You can use each of these five documents either individually or in any combination. Your use of Europass is always voluntary.

In what language should I fill out the documents?

That is essentially up to you. Visit the European Europass Portal for information, forms and examples on all documents in all official languages of the participating countries. This web site contains German and English versions.

I already have a Europass Training document. Is it still valid?

Of course. The Europass Training Document served until the beginning of 2005 as a means of documenting occupational qualifications and has now been replaced by the Europass Mobility. Any Europass Training Document already issued retains its function, namely to document qualifications acquired during a vocational training stay abroad prior to 2005!

However, a Europass Training Document already issued cannot be converted into a new Europass Mobility.

Does the Europass cost anything?

No. All documents are available at no charge. You can either fill them out yourself or download them over the internet.

Where can I get the protective cover for my Europass?

The protective cover ('Europass Cover') is available at the National Europass Centre.

In what countries are the Europass documents valid?

The Europass Portfolio is valid in 31 European countries (27 EU Member States plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey).
