The European Parliament and the Council took the decision in December 2004 to introduce the new Europass. The Europass Decision stipulated that national Europass Centres were to be set up in the participating countries as central coordinating bodies for all five Europass documents as well as the activities around the Europass. The Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture ordered that the Austrian National Europass Centre (NEC Austria) be set up within the LEONARDO DA VINCI National Agency - which is now part of the Lifelong Learning Programme National Agency of Austria.
Among its primary responsibilities, the NEC coordinates the implementation of the Europass in Austria and all activities related to that implementation. The NEC will actively and fully promote the use of this portfolio. It will also offer events and counselling and make available information on a broad basis.
